“My hat it has three corners, three corners has my hat; and had it not three corners, it would not be my hat.” And it wouldn’t be a Tricorn, either. With the point worn forwards, the three sides of this hat form perfect gutters to redirect rain away from your face. Of course, this was back in the 17th century, before rain gear was invented. By the end of the 1800’s the Tricorn moved from civilian wear to military wear. Soldiers could turn the hat sideways to allow more room for their muskets when propped on the shoulder.

Most Americans associate the Tricorn with the American Revolution and the Minutemen. Today you can see the Jaxon Wool Felt Tricorn Hat style worn at Revolutionary reenactment events, as well as in academic culture and by sports fans. Go Patriots!
